Reasonably Priced Tobacco

An anonymous puffer writes in to ask for our help:

I have been a pipe smoker for 64 years. I live alone in a rural area. Even drug stores ten miles away no longer carry pipe tobacco. The nearest “big city” is 35miles away. ( as you can see by the number of years I’ve been a pipe smoker, I am an octogenarian, add to this I’m nursing a 20 year old truck that get about 14 mile to the gallon, I’ve just got to find a supplier of (reasonably priced tobacco ) on the internet.

My daughter has been mailing me , Admiral’s Choice, Cherry cavendish. Offered by Dream Castle Tobacco. However I don’t seem to be able to find a company that will sell this brand on the internet. It appears Dream Castle does not sell direct.

Could you suggest the name of a supplier that will sell RELATIVELY INEXPENSIVE pipe tobacco?

In the olden days, many many years ago, I bought some of the more “ exotic” blends from a “purveyor of fine tobaccos” WALLY FRANK , you might recall the name.

Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

What do you say guys, can we help the fellow out?

I’ve ordered from Pipes and Cigars and they are a class act and probably the all around cheapest on the net. Orders over $100 are free shipping! Balkan Sasieni is <$6/tin, Full Va. Flake and Skiff both <$7/tin. Awesome deals with multiple tin purchases even cheaper. You will easily do better than any local shop, especially considering no sales tax and the price of gas. Oh and, hope your not offended, but at your age I’d go ahead and splurge on some good stuff! ;)

http://www.paylesspipes.com offers free shipping on select bulk tobaccos when you buy at least 2 pounds. Perhaps one of these would be a possible substitute for the one you currently are smoking.

A good source of drugstore and supermarket tobacco is W. VA Smoke Shop. Their number is 1-888-319-6960. (Morgantown, W. VA.)

They carry most of the old time brands like Prince Albert, Half & Half, Cherry Blend, and many, many others. Prices are very reasonable.

They also carry Kaywoodies, Yello Boles and other popular pipes. I have ordered Kaywoodie pipes in the past and the service was excellent.

I too am older and retired and can’t get out much. Before you buy from anyone, try Habana at:http://www.pipesandcigars.com/pipetobacco.html

If they don’t have something rare, if you call them, they can be most helpful in either finding it or suggesting a good substitute. Their selection is very wide, prices are the best I’ve found and Priority Mail mailing cost (fast) is minimal. It also helps to combine orders because it really saves on mailing cost.

http://www.tobaccocellar.org/blends.php?cellar=443&view=blend&brand_id=156
shows a listing of a tobac by Dream Castle so you might get ahold of them and discover something about the company.

Tobacco-Barn.com is another source for pipe tobaccos; tinned or custom blended.

Why is noone mentioning http://www.boswellpipes.com They price tobacco at 1.95$ an ounce….much cheeper than any online store. Also…they will blend you anythign custom and carry most everything in bulk. If you want a special cherry blend, or whatever your needs, they will do it. They are friendly, and also nearly always throw in some samples to try their other tobacco.

For a cheap and good tasting aromatic I would recommended Prince Albert Soft Vanilla and Prince Albert Cherry Vanilla! I generally smoke the expensive stuff and was pleasantly surprised by these blends. You can find them at JR Cigars or Lil Brown smoke shack…both links have been previously posted

Yes indeed, do check out http://www.boswellpipes.com for low-cost and high quality pipe tobaccos. And if you’re more comfortable ordering products on the telephone with a live person, call them at 717-264-1711. J.M. or Dan will happily take time to find some quality tobaccos that will suit you from the first puff to the last.

And if, as the grouchy health police insist, this is such a “harmful habit,” how come there’s so many “octogenarians” (I like that word 8^) hanging around this site? I rather think the 1960-something Surgeon General report was right: Pipe smokers live longer…..than nonsmokers!

Long live the pipe, and long live you. I hope something in this discourse helps you in some way. 8^)

Oh, and I almost forgot to mention my all-time favorite tobacconist: Milan Tobacconist! http://www.milantobacco.com is their site, or call them at 877-70-MILAN, or (540) 344-5191. I know these folks personally; they’re wonderful people, and have all sorts of great offerings. Not much more expensive than Boswell, and I’ve been able to go to their shop personally. I’ve lived near it for several years. Unfortunately, I’m moving away now.

Hope one of these can help you out.

Cupojoes.com has one called Finsbury that comes in 12oz. for $9.99. They have Cherry, Black Cavendish, Black and Gold, Natural, Vanilla, and Whiskey. All are the same price.

I’ve never had it myself, but it may be worth looking at. The website says it’s a good replacement for Super Value, Smoker’s Pride, or Royal Guard.

I really don’t know what you favor as far as tobaccos go, but if you like aromatics, I’d recommend you try Cup O’ Joes.

Try this link for a decent bulk blend.
