I have been a bit out of the loop for a while and I was wondering, what are the venues people use these days to trade or sell estate pipes and aged tins? Is it mostly through dealers and eBay, or is there somewhere I don’t know about?
How do you swap, buy and sell your estates and aged tins?

I’ve never sold estate pipes and aged tins but I wanted to offer you the services of http://www.insiderauctions.com. We are a new auction site that offers free basic listings, including 1 picture. There are optional features for low fees and the final value fee is a flat 2%. If you have a lot of items to sell, you can set up a store with the first month free. I hope you decide to give us a try, but in the meantime if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to let me know. Good luck.
I sell 10-15 refurbished pipes a week on e-bay, a nice hobby in retirement that pays for tobacco’s and frankly allows me to smoke pipes I would otherwise not be able to afford.
I’ve tried a lot of other auction sites but with the exception of a few listings weekly on the Goodwill site, there doesn’t seem to be very much out there for estate/vintage/restored pipes
Sorry, when I re-read my statement it appeared that I was saying there wasn’t much out there except what I offered and of course, that is not true. There doesn’t seem to be much outside of e-bay but there are several exceptional sellers on e-bay like:
pipestud, http://stores.ebay.com/PIPESTUDS-CONSIGNMENT-PIPE-SHOP_W0QQssPageNameZstrkQ3amefsQ3amesstQQtZkm
Good Smoking Pipes http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZgoodsmokingpipes
And of course there are also good retailers like Frenchy
http://www.frenchyspipes.com/
Greetings and welcome back to the loop (or loopy). For swapping there is still no better way than to attend the collectors pipe shows like the one coming up in Chicago in May. For selling and reaching the most potential buyers there is nothing better than Ebay, at least not yet.
Occasionally, people post estate pipes and tins on the A.S.P. newsgroup.
Hello K. Smith. I noticed that you referred to ASP Newsgroup. I cannot seem to find any information about it through web browsing. I’ve seen several references to it on tobaccoreviews.com but not what it stands for. How do you get to it? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Tony
I’ve bought, sold and traded numerous pipes and tins of tobacco at http://www.smokersforums.org/. It’s a pipe and cigar smoker’s web forum. Since it’s a fairly tight knit community, the level of personal responsibility to the other members is pretty high. Much more so than an anonymous outlet like eBay. I’ve had good experiences with with all transactions on the forum. But I’ve also had fairly good luck on eBay as well. I just stick to known sellers, and frequently buy from the same people if they prove themselves to be sellers of high integrity.
Another great source for buying and selling estate pipes is Mike Glukler who operates briarblues.com. An exceptional gentleman, IMHO.
Tony. Re your question about ASP. That is alt.smokers.pipes It is a public usenet forum. You can access it through a newsreader or Google the full name [not ASP]and acess the posts through Google groups. Hope this is helpful.
I have two tins of SG 1792 Flake, one sealed and another openned, minus 1/2 a bowl of tobacco. Anyone want to do a trade?
I’ve got a sealed tin of ET Pembroke, I’ll trade you for it. I ordered it by accident on a web site - thought I was clicking on Penzance.
I just recently started smoking a pipe after wanting to for years. Much better than cigars, if you ask me. Wife hates it, but oh well. I have bought a few pipes and some tobacco on eBay. Up to seven pipes now and a few tins of tobacco. There are quite a few sellers on there and I haven’t had a bad transaction yet. IrishLefty is correct - pipestud is great. I watch his stuff all the time. estore4 and judperl are two I have bought from. Good luck.
Am interested in selling or trading collectable pipes, vintage tobaccos, and eventually vintage vinyl with good covers. All can be seen by going to http://PipesAndVinyl.com
