Duplicates & Missing Pictures

Okay folks, I am finally recovered from the Christmas holiday feasting (I cooked for my entire extended family), and now I’m back to working on making Tobacco Reviews better. I have big plans for 2008, but first there are some loose ends to clear up.
I know that there are several tobaccos in the database that are duplicates of each other. I need your help though in order to identify all of them so that I can merge them into one record. If you know of a duplicate, post a comment here with a link (cut and paste it from the address bar of your browser) of both versions of the tobacco, and I will merge them.
Also, there are too many tobaccos in the database without a picture. If you have a digital camera and a tin of something that doesn’t have an image yet, please take a nice snapshot of it and email it to me. Thanks!

Snug Harbor under C&D has a dupe. The Blog is great!

Revelation by House of Windsor is duplicated…
Been a very, very long time user of this site and it just gets better and better! Kudos!

Surely the same tobacco, but apparently sold under a different brand name? Is this sort of thing a duplicate?

Blakenew’s Best Latakia Flake (http://tobaccoreviews.com/blend_detail.cfm?ALPHA=B&TID=2540)
Is also listed (incorrectly) as Latakia Flake (http://tobaccoreviews.com/blend_detail.cfm?ALPHA=L&TID=2484)
also, Bayou Slice (http://tobaccoreviews.com/blend_detail.cfm?ALPHA=B&TID=2483) should probably be listed as Blakeney’s Best Bayou Slice.
also, is there any such animal as Blackwoods Extra Flake? (http://tobaccoreviews.com/blend_detail.cfm?ALPHA=B&TID=1562)
In reference to pictures of tins: I would just like to comment that a picture of the tobacco itself, along with the tin would be nice. I’m thinking along the lines of smokingpipes’ bulks pictures with the possible addition of the tin sitting in there, too. (I don’t mean go steal their pictures, but to make similar ones).
thanks,

Two years ago it was decided in the EU that tobacco products are to carry larger warning texts. In that same law it also says that words like “Light “and “Mild” cannot be used on tobacco products anymore.( see Mac Baren site http://www.mac-baren.com/BundMenu/Products/Change-of-names.aspx )
As a result, these are the name changes for Mac Baren :
Mixture Light(Old Name) = Mixture Aromatic (New name)
http://www.tobaccoreviews.com/blend_detail.cfm?ALPHA=M&TID=705
http://www.tobaccoreviews.com/blend_detail.cfm?ALPHA=M&TID=2205
Mixture Mild (Old Name) = Mixture Modern (New name)

Mixture 79:

http://tobaccoreviews.com/blend_detail.cfm?ALPHA=M&TID=1183
Also, the second listing is listed under “H. Sutliff”, instead of “Sutliffe Tobacco Company”, and is the only listing under that brand.
Thanks everyone, and keep it up! I have not yet removed all of the duplicates, but I am working on it.
Hey, Jon!
Keep up the great work! This site has really changed my smoking life over the last three years with no end is sight! Love it.
In reference to the pictures, is there a size (in pixels) that works the best? Some of the pictures I’ve seen are quite distorted and if I sent one in, I’d like for that not to happen. If there was an ideal size, I could adjust to that as I deal with the picture.
Also, are jpegs the format that you want them in?
Perhaps the answer to both of these questions are obvious to those whose computer skills are more up to date than the 1990s!!!
Thanks,
Doug Pearson
jpegs are excellent, though gifs are fine too.
As to the size, larger is better than small, so send ‘em in big.
I am working on integrating a better photo system that will automatically make thumbnails the size I want to display and allow you to click on the thumbnail for a full size picture.
The distorted ones on the site now are pics that are too small, and I hope to replace them eventually.
I sent 3 jpegs yesterday,did you receive them ?
Question- Is there a discussion forum linked to tobacco reviews?

I’d like to see a section that rate tobacconists - be it on the high steet and online. I’ve had dealings with a number of online tobacco sales and have had service from excellent to so so. Also some seem to be better stocked than others.
